Guang Wu Why Religion Cannot Prevail in China?

Perhaps, China is the only country, where no religion dominates and prevails. Although the traditional Chinese religions occurred, Buddhism was and is popular and missionaries tried to their best to promote Christianity, it is still hard for the Chinese people to become really religious because theocracy did not appear in China, the Chinese people never waged a religious war and religion reforms never took place in China. In this book: (i) the author at first explores the possibility of if God had touched China because God touched Middle East according to the Bible, (ii) the author analyzes what defines Chinese national identity because Europe is defined by Christianity, (iii) the author discusses if Chinese history can be separated from religion because history in many countries cannot be separated from religion, (iv) the author explains why traditional Chinese religion cannot prevail in China, (v) the author reveals a possible reason why the Chinese people may not be suitable to...

Jiangbo Gao and Shaohong Wu Water and Heat Budget in southwest China influence East Asian Climate

The regional climatic effects of land cover change in Guizhou Karst Plateau (GKP) were investigated using the WRF model. The WRF showed high ability to downscale NCEP-DOE Reanalysis-2, especially for the precipitation simulation. After land degradation over GKP, the net radiation and evaporation were reduced mainly within the desertification area, consistent with the reduction in rainfall and the increase in surface temperature there. The southwest monsoon flow from the Bay of Bengal was weakened over the adjacent area to the northeast, influencing the East Asian summer monsoon. Meanwhile, the weaker low-layer anti-cyclone and the stronger horizontal convergence enhanced the vertical motion in the southeastern coastal areas. Furthermore, owing to the decreased surface heating in the degradation experiment, the lifting over GKP and neighboring regions to the east was limited, which resulted in the reduced rainfall within GKP and strengthened the ascending motion downstream over...

Guang Wu China's 1980s Generation: Will Their Fortune Run Out?

In recent years, a newly word was created in the Chinese language. This word pronounces 'ba ling huo', which literally means after 80s and refers to the people, who were born in the 1980s in China. For a period of time, this generation became a social problem because older generations and mass media blamed them severely. Interestingly, the 1980s generation is the first generation under Chinese single-child policy, and they were the most beloved child in eyes of their parents and grandparents, so one can easily wonder whether this generation ran out of their luck. In this book, at first the author discusses why the 1980s generation is the most fortunate generation in Chinese history, why the social development makes this generation become less fortunate, what a particular relationship exists between the 1980s generation and modern China, will the 1980s generation have a bright future, what the 1980s generation can do in their future, and whom the 1980s should blame for their fall....

That is to say the company which has a clear property right system enjoys more profitability than other has not.

Mei Wu Higher Education for China's Ethnic Minorities

Opportunities to pursue higher education have increased in China; however, the quality of education available to ethnic minority students continues to lag behind that available to Han majority students. Do the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of minority students influence their social and academic adjustment? This mixed method study explored the relationships among personal self-esteem, collective self-esteem, collegiate psychological sense of community (CPSC), and social and cultural adjustment(SCA)of students at a Chinese university for minorities. Results indicate that cultural and linguistic backgrounds have a direct influence on collective self-esteem and an indirect influence on social and academic adjustment. CPSC has a significant strong influence on SCA. Results also revealed that students, whose ethnic language was long lost, such as the Hui (Chinese Muslim), have higher collective self-esteem. Interviews with students from different ethnic groups revealed both common...

Lei Wu Chinese Welfare Recipients’ Perspectives on Employment

Since the 1990s, urban unemployment has become a serious social problem in China. The real urban unemployment reached 16 million in 1999 and nine percent of the total urban population was affected by unemployment. In response to the social problem of unemployment, the Chinese government established a special welfare employment program targeted toward the elderly, needy, and hard-to-employment group to serve the public welfare in the communities. This book examined the welfare employment program recipients’ perspectives on employment and factors influencing their perspectives. Based on the findings of the study, a possible model of the welfare employment recipients’ perspectives and the influencing factors was tentatively established. The results generated policy implications for debate on the welfare employment program as well as research implications for future studies.

Shufang Wu Perspectives on the Zhouli

The Zhouli, sometimes called the Zhouguan, is an important work of bureaucratic administration in early China. Based on the overview of previous studies, this research explores some important perspectives on this work such as the problems of dating, authenticity, editions and research methods, the issue of “Inner” and “Outer” Officials as well as the Role of the Royal Family, the issue of inner court and outer court and the evolution of the concepts, namely "inner-outer"(nei-wai), "public-private" (gong-si) and "yin-yang" from the Western Zhou period to the Qin and Han dynasties. In the final part, this research concludes that the author(s) probably used some records of the Zhou period and borrowed some specific concepts, which had been prevailing in earlier times, into the context. Moreover, it might be the case that the author(s) lived in an age when a unified empire co-existed together with remnants of privately held fiefdoms. Therefore, the Zhouli is more likely to be composed in...
